Fearful Symmetries
BY MANDAFOUNIS
Commissioned by the Grand théâtre de genève
In his piece Fearful Symmetries Ioannis Mandafounis creates a dialogue between individuality and collectivity to find intimacy within the group.
He counterpoints with his choreography the musical composition of John Adams by additionning and subtracting actions, ideas, images and movement, offering to the viewer an entry point into the body's functionality.
With moments of sudden explosions of energy and others of stillness and quietness, the choreographer colors the stage with numerous embodied human sensations. Along the lines of his choreographic methodology, Ioannis brings in this new work his take on written movement by mixing old and recent kinesthetic knowledge in order to allow the dancers to question their performative presence and urges them to find a way to inhabit their dance in a new way.
